The double value of a tree.
When you decide to plant a zeroCO2 tree, it benefits not only the environment, but also the families of farmers taking care of it. Your impact will therefore be twofold. The relation between the two values varies based on the tree you decide to plant.
Environmental impact
Social impact
Trees are the most efficient and cost-effective technology for the offsetting of greenhouse gases.
By planting a tree, you support then the global effort in fighting climate change.
The tree you plant with zeroCO2 has an enormous impact on the life of our partner communities to which the tree is donated. They are the ones who will help the tree grow and who will enjoy its fruits. They will decide whether to keep the fruits for personal consumption or sell them at the nearest market.
Environmental impact
Trees offset CO2 thanks to the photosynthesis supporting their life.
Just like we inhale oxygen (O2) and exhale carbon dioxide (CO2), through photosynthesis, trees synthesize glucose and release oxygen.
In the photosynthesis, then, trees use CO2 to produce glucose and release O2. This makes them perfect machines for the reduction of anthropogenic emissions not only of CO2.
Some trees offset more CO2 than others. Find them in our store.
Besides clear differences among species, trees can absorb significantly different amounts of CO2, even when we compare two specimens of the same species. The variables connected to their life – the growing crown along the years, more or less favorable seasons, possible diseases – affect their offsetting capacities. Our estimates take into account all these variables over a twenty-year timeframe in your plant’s life.
Social impact
Our reforestation system is agroforestry. Based on the indications of land stakeholders, our partner communities alternate annual crops, such as corn and beans, with the planting of several types of trees. In this way, a virtuous system is established which is inspired by agroecology techniques, where people are placed back in the center of the productive systems in full consideration of the surrounding environment.
Food security or financial support? You choose!
As of today, zeroCO2 plants 50% fruit trees and 50% forest trees.
make your move!
Whether you want to improve our environment or generate social impact, with zeroCO2 you cannot go wrong: we are a sustainable project in all possible respects.
