3 Kg/year of beans produced
Hi, I’m a Cacao Tree:
As the Aztecs used to say, the cocoa fruit hides a treasure of seeds as bitter as the sufferings of love, as strong as courage, as red as blood.
Evergreen and very delicate, this is why it grows protected by the shade of other plants.
Chocolate. It is enough to hear the word to make everybody, young and old, happy. It has been cultivated in Guatemala for thousands of years. The Mayan populations discovered it and used beans and cocoa butter for food. This fruit was so important that it was used as currency among Mayan indigenous peoples. Still nowadays it is an excellent source of income for peasant families.
Theobroma cacao L.
Am I already your favorite tree?
