Benefits of permaculture

Permaculture is defined as a holistic approach to agriculture because it embraces human needs and ecosystem health at the same time. A strength of permaculture is the ability to acknowledge the limiting factors of a specific area and work around them with creativity. As a consequence, a region’s unique resources can be deployed regeneratively to provide shelter, harvest energy and generate a surplus that is then equitably distributed throughout the community.
In addition to practical design criteria, permaculture provides a system of ethical principles that integrate social and ecological processes, creating a kind of harmony between community and land that has been shadowed by highly mechanised and industrialised agricultural models.
Permaculture design can be applied at various scales, from one’s home garden to a city block and beyond.
