Adopting an eco-sustainable approach means adopting conscious practices and decisions to balance human needs with respect for the environment in all aspects of life from environmental procurement, to renewable energy, to clothing.
The notion of eco-sustainability originates from scientific disciplines related to ecology and natural resource management, but the term itself has more recent roots and has developed in the context of environmental and sustainability discussions in recent decades. Ecology has always analysed the dynamics of ecosystems, the interactions between species and food chains, and recalls the importance of maintaining ecological balance. The concept of sustainability, which has become increasingly popular since the 1970s, refers to the need to manage resources responsibly in order to meet the needs of current generations without compromising those of future generations. The term ‘eco-sustainability’ is a synthesis of these ideas, expressing the deep connection between human beings and the environment, emphasising the need to manage human activities in a way that preserves ecosystems and their services, maintaining a balance between people’s needs and the Earth’s capacity to provide resources and support life.
