The ESG approach goes beyond assessing the financial performance of a business or organisation by including three key dimensions: environmental, social and governance.
Environmental assessment looks, for example, at the energy efficiency, emissions reduction and resource conservation practices adopted by companies to reduce their carbon footprint. In the social sphere, a company that meets the ESG criteria is distinguished by a working environment that promotes diversity and inclusion, and guarantees workers’ rights and safety at work. Finally, ESG includes criteria on corporate leadership and management structure, transparency, business ethics and risk management.
