The CDP was founded in 2000 with the objective of collecting data and information on greenhouse gas emissions and reduction strategies adopted by companies. Over the years, the CDP has expanded to include a wide range of sustainability issues, such as water use, forest management and climate equity.
Companies and cities participate in the CDP by responding annually to detailed questionnaires on their management of greenhouse gas emissions, planning of reduction strategies and other related environmental issues. The data collected by the CDP is then made available to the public, investors, non-governmental organisations and regulators. Participation in the CDP not only helps organisations measure and assess their environmental impact, but also contributes to a globally standardised reporting system. This allows various actors to compare the performance of companies and cities.
The CDP plays a crucial role in fostering transparency, accountability and the adoption of sustainable practices in the private and public sectors, helping to steer companies and cities towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
