Reforestation is great anywhere. Even underwater.
Create your own Posidonia meadow in the Mediterranean Sea: it produces oxygen, it safeguards the seabed, and it protects marine biodiversity.
Sustainability belongs to the sea, too.
Oceans host as much life as forests do. They provide us with 50% of the oxygen we breathe and absorb 30% of carbon dioxide by performing a crucial global climate-regulating function.
Human activities and climate change are damaging marine ecosystems and biodiversity. If destroying is easy, regeneration is not as immediate as it can hopefully seem: recreating complex and stable ecosystems requires knowledge, resources, practical skills, and time. In the last 50 years, 29% of Posidonia Oceanica seagrass beds, an ecosystem that performs very important functions for the health of our oceans, have been lost in the Mediterranean Sea. We have many other alarming figures at hand, but don’t these seem already enough to make a move? Create your first forest underwater in the Mediterranean with us, or ask us anything about how it works.
Watch your posidonia meadow grow online.
You read that right: the posidonia meadow you create with us is traceable on our platform. We monitor your underwater forest through satellite images, but also through professional photos and updates from our reporters, which we send you periodically.
Thanks to our new platform you can keep an eye on the impact you have made with your company on a unified dashboard, through graphics and statistics on your posidonia meadow. Here you can literally see the growth of your posidonia meadow thanks to periodical photographic updates.
Use the redeem codes to engage your stakeholders. They will become co-owners of your posidonia meadow, receive customised updates and unlock dedicated functions on our platform.
Receive mediakit including photos, videos and texts to use in your communication. You will be able to create a landing dedicated to your posidonia meadow with an embedded dashboard, and thus share your engagement with everyone.

Posidonia is the lung of the Mediterranean.
Posidonia Oceanica is the most important marine plant in the Mediterranean Sea. Every day, one single square meter of osidonia can generate up to 20 liters of oxygen through photosynthesis.
When people think of forests, they certainly do not think of fish. Yet underwater, there are plenty of plants with roots, stems, and leaves that produce oxygen just as they do on land, creating valuable habitats for many marine species. Posidonia Oceanica has ribbon-like leaves, up to 1m long, that capture CO2 and release oxygen through photosynthesis. Among Mediterranean seagrasses, posidonia is the most effective in carbon fixation and storage. A posidonia seagrass meadow is called a posidonet. Creating one means helping the sea breathe and consequently, all of us.
Posidonia is home to 350+ species.
One hectare of posidonia meadow can host up to 350 different species, or about 25% of all living species in our sea. Imagine it as a nursery for fish, stingrays, mollusks, turtles, algae, and hundreds of other animals that live the early stages of their lives there.
What happens to these species when their habitat fails, when the place where they evolved to live in disappears or becomes inhospitable? They die, or they migrate in search of survival elsewhere. More often than not, they do not find it. The loss of biodiversity in the sea has consequences on the whole environment: it makes us more vulnerable to flooding, it reduces available water resources, and it impacts energy and food supplies, hence economic supplies. There is still time to play the UNO reverse card against this course of events, and contributing is not that complex. By creating a posidonet, you can help several species thrive in their own habitat, and by doing so, you help the rest of the planet as well. Yep, it’s that easy.
Posidonia keeps beaches healthy.
Every square meter of posidonia that regresses can cause the erosion of 15 meters of sandy shoreline, and this causes an economic loss estimated between 39,000 and 89,000 euros to our society.
This degradation is mainly caused by anthropization, the activities carried out by humans to adapt the territory to their needs. We are talking about consequences such as seabed overexploitation, overfishing and trawling, anchoring, pollution, and global warming. A seabed populated with posidonia is a healthy seabed, and so is the coastline in its vicinity.
A simple guide to marine reforestation.
We choose the location
We map the seabed and patrol the area with divers to make sure the location and substrate are suitable.
We collect the cuttings
We send our divers to collect Posidonia cuttings offshore and transplant them to a selected area, in collaboration with Worldrise ONLUS.
We reach the area
Our divers reach the selected area, equipped with biodegradable coconut fiber mats to transplant the collected cuttings.
We place the mats
This is when we prepare the seabed for transplanting in a non-invasive way: our divers dive down and place coconut fiber mats in the selected area.
We transplant the cuttings
At this point, the divers place the collected cuttings on the mats, which take root with the help of the biodegradable net.
We check if everything is okay
Every new meadow needs periodic checks: we need to make sure that the plants have taken root and are growing healthy and well.
Fight the climate crisis also underwater
Incorporate sustainability into your communication and corporate image by developing a clear and transparent strategy that caters to the needs of your stakeholders.
Receive exclusive, customisable content periodically, including photos, videos, text and graphics, to demonstrate your commitment to preserving marine ecosystems.
Marine ecosystems will become the core of your communication, thanks to your commitment to safeguarding the seabed and the biodiversity of the Mediterranean Sea.
Share your commitment by making your stakeholders protagonists. Gift them a Posidonia oceanica cutting that they can monitor on our platform.
By supporting marine reforestation with zeroCO2, you support 3 UN Sustainable Development Goals: specifically Goals 13, 14 and 17.
Got questions?
You can buy a Posidonia oceanica forest online directly on our platform or contact our team to support you in the purchase. You will help us reforest the seabed of the Mediterranean Sea, generating impact for the climate and protecting marine biodiversity
After your purchase you will have access to our platform from which you can manage all the services and content associated with the reforestation projected you decided to support.
You will be able to:
1. customise your public landing page;
2. monitor the growth of your submerged forest thanks to continuous updates from our reports and the local team;
3. visualise the impact you have generated with your forest on the dashboard;
4. manage the redemption codes to share Posidonia cuttings and engage your stakeholders;
5. download media kits with ready-to-use photos, videos and text to share your efforts on different platforms.
Worldrise is our partner organisation in this marine reforestation project. It is an NGO working to safeguard the important ecosystems and immense biodiversity hidden underwater. Worldrise operates mainly in the Mediterranean Sea, a strategic focus in the fight against climate change due to its specific conformation.
Our marine reforestation project targets the Mediterranean Sea, which is particularly affected by climate change and other human activities such as trawling. To date, the project is active in the Golfo Aranci in Sardinia. You can contact our team to design your forest underwater and explore together new locations potentially suitable for marine reforestation.
Create your underwater forest.
A posidonia meadow absorbs CO2, repopulates the seabed, and provides a home to many animal and plant species in the Mediterranean Sea.
